Emma Picken went on a six-month trip to South Africa and returned with the intention of bringing Be United, which she had founded there, to Scotland. The culture and development project organises education programmes, such as drama and music classes, to support disengaged Scottish and South African teenagers, developing abilities above and beyond what is expected and offered in school. The organisation focuses on arts and creative industries and inspiring people to realise their full potential. Together with local and international partners the team seeks to create platforms for artists and creative industry practitioners to share skills and train others.
